What is tree leopard?

The tree leopard is also known as the clouded leopard and is a medium-sized wild cat that is native to the Himalayan foothills of Southeast Asia and the islands of Sumatra and Borneo. They are known for their distinctive cloud-like spots on their fur which helps camouflage them in their forest habitat. Tree leopards are excellent climbers and are able to leap distances of up to 6 meters in trees and can also swim in water. They are solitary animals and are mostly active during the night, spending most of the day resting in trees. Their diet consists mainly of small mammals, birds, and reptiles. Due to habitat loss and poaching, tree leopards are considered to be a vulnerable species and their population is decreasing. Conservation efforts are underway to protect their habitats and prevent their illegal trade.
